If only I had taken this photo today while we were experiencing a massive snowstorm! But alas, I did not. It’s actually been an unusually snow-free winter here on the South Coast of Massachusetts and if you know anything about the Blizzard of 2015 then you know this region can get its fair share of snow!
When I created this photo I really wanted to capture the magic of the snowing scene with Hedwig in the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone…but, since there was very little snow when I took this photo I had to turn to my good friend Photoshop.
Now, at first I was intimidated. I didn’t know how I was going to make realistic looking snow (or at least artistically convincing snow) in Photoshop. I also couldn’t wrap my head around how I was going to do it, either…but I took to the Internet like I always do in these situations and did a little research.
I found some free snow brushes, imported them into Photoshop and figured I’d just see what I could do.
And I was actually quite surprised and pleased to find that it was a whole lot easier than I expected!
So to pass along the knowledge I put together a “how to” of what I did that you can watch below:
And that’s it! I hope you all were able to take something away from this basic tutorial! If you did please let me know in a comment.
Peace, love, and happy creating!
